The Black Light Contingent is a group of artists who create fluorescent and neon based art for their own artistic and aesthetic purposes. The artists create traditonal and experimental art in several mediums. The Black Light Contingent currently exhibits its work in The Calcasieu Gallery in downtown San Antonio. The Calcasieu Gallery is unique in that it is designed to exhibit fluorescent based art specifically, a quality no other galleries exhibit in the region. The Black Light Contingent is made up of permanent "contingent members" who work to put on art shows and promote the fluorescent medium. The Black Light Contingent also exhibits the work of other, non-contingent artists. Every new art open exhibits featured guest artists' work side-by-side with contingent member work. The Black Light Contingent officially formed in 2009. The Contingent's main event is The Black Light Art Party. Founding members Michael Aaron Casares, Gil Casares and Ernest Vidal organized the first Black Light Art Parties at Ruta Maya Riverwalk in June 2007 and July 2008. The Black Light Art Party is a night of fluorescent art and music and has been recieved with a general sense of awe by the public. The Black Light Contingent is looking forward to putting on future art opens and exhibits both in and out of The Calcasieu Gallery.
